I think summer wrestling camps do a lot to get a child ready for the next year of wrestling. I have often been asked by younger wrestling parents how to get their child to the next level of wrestling. The key thing for younger wrestlers is maturity. You cannot do anything about maturity. You’re just playing a waiting game. One thing you can do is to put your child in a summer wrestling camp.
There are numerous advantages to putting your child in a summer wrestling camp. Today, I would like to talk about why summer wrestling camps are a good step in the right direction to build future wrestling state champs.
Lower Coach to Wrestler Ratio – Most good wrestling camps will hire enough coaches so that a lot of one on one attention can be given to a wrestler. The lower ratio will better help your child understand how, when, and why of wrestling.
Interact with Other Wrestlers – One of the great things about wrestling camps is that your child will get to be around other young wrestlers. He will most likely meet a lot of really good wrestlers. I have found that wrestler’s peers can have a huge impact on their wrestling.
Keeps them focused on Wrestling – Most wrestlers only practice wrestling 3-4 months out of the year. The rest of the year they don’t do anything with wrestling. A kid that wrestles during the summer has a big advantage over other wrestlers, because they have continually been working and do not need a refresher in the winter time.
They Stay in Shape - Wrestlers who wrestle during the summer are in better physical condition than wrestlers who do not wrestler during the summer. A good wrestling camp will keep your child in top shape for the upcoming wrestling season.
